Recent proposals of the health care reform could greatly affect those big businesses in the health care field. According to CBS News, President Obama has proposed large taxes mostly for the funding of the huge reform. The biggest industry that has been targeted are medical device makers. They could face an added $20 billion in taxes on the sales of devices to pay for the health care overhaul.
So what would this mean for those of us trying to do business with those big businesses? With the added economical strain of higher taxes, chances are prices will go up, and when prices go up sales will likely go down. If the tax hikes are based on sales, this could throw a wrench in the government's plan for funding.
If the government is going to place more taxes on these companies, they need to make sure before they do, they secure prices at a specific level so they do not place more burdens on average citizens trying to pay for medical procedures and devices. I'm sure these taxes will not be enforced without in depth research as to the after-effects on the health care market, I just hope the research they do is thorough enough for the sake of American citizens.
